 In 1988, Peter Quill is abducted from Earth by Yondu Udonta and his band of space pirates, the Ravagers. Twenty-six years later, Quill steals a mysterious orb from Ronan the Accuser, a Kree warlord who plans to use it to destroy Xandar, the capital of the Nova Corps.

Quill is pursued by Ronan's forces and the Nova Corps. He teams up with Gamora, a skilled assassin; Drax the Destroyer, a vengeful warrior; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically-engineered raccoon; and Groot, a walking tree. The Guardians must work together to protect the orb from Ronan and save the galaxy.
